Description
In this two-day class, you will create a wide brim hat using parasisal straw, which is the preferred straw for haute couture millinery due to fine weave and long-lasting qualities. Learn basic millinery techniques: blocking, wiring, finishing. In addition, we will discuss different types of feathers and how to use them for decorations. The goal of this class is to get familiar with the techniques of hat making.
Location:
This class will be hosted in eclectic lake home of a local milliner, just outside I-285 in Pine Lake, Georgia 30072, near Stone Mountain and Clarkston. A tour of the host’s millinery studio will also be offered (just up a flight of steep stairs).
Skills:
This class is for millinery beginners
Sewing skills are required.
Supplies:
Please bring the following:
- Sewing kit: selection of different colored threads, needles, pins, small scissors, thimble
- 1 inch wide elastic in white
- Fabric scissors and craft scissors
- Selection of fabrics – silk, cotton or rayon, avoid polyester. You can bring scraps unless you want to make a band, then you need 36×60 inches.
- Fusible interfacing
- Aleene’s sticky glue
- Floral wire.
- You can obtain those in Jo-Anns, Michael’s or Hobby Lobby.
